My Story

Hello, I am Luis Guerrero, I have lived all my life in Panama.

I am 27 years old, I graduated as an Industrial Engineer in Mexico and currently work as a tour guide in my spare time.

Since I was very young I always ended up helping tourists with directions or acting as a translator—and I still do.

Why Do I Like Panama?

The story of how Panama and the Panama Canal were born fascinates me; Panama is a warm country and Panamanians are warm too. What I like most about Panama is that there is always something to do.

My TOP 5 Things I Like Most About Panama:

  • The food
  • The waterfalls and rivers
  • The people
  • The carnival
  • The islands and beaches

The Panama Carnival

Panamanians love to party; our carnival lasts 4 days and its attraction is that tanker trucks spray you with water. I go every year with my family, have a lot of fun, and always see tourists experiencing the Panama Carnival.

What to Do in Panama City?

There is always something to do in Panama City:

  • Visit Casco Antiguo.
  • Various events and conventions throughout the year.
  • See the Panama Canal.
  • Salsa classes for only 5 dollars, where you'll discover the passion and fire of the rhythm.
  • Eat at the Seafood Market.

The Gastronomy

Panamanian food has Caribbean influences, is quite exotic, and it is common to eat fish and seafood.

Islands and Beaches You Must Visit

If you come to Panama, you are probably looking for warmth and beaches, so I recommend the following beaches and islands:

  • San Blas – a must-stop with tours departing daily, the fifth most beautiful beach in the world.
  • Iguana Island, located in Los Santos, where iguanas abound and it is very popular during whale season.
  • Coiba Island, located in the province of Veraguas, which was once a prison.
  • Chiriquí Archipelago, in my opinion the second best beach in Panama.
  • Escudo Island, considered by many the most beautiful island in Panama. It is home to the pygmy sloth.

Tourism in Panama

Tourism in Panama has room for improvement; the Panamanian government does not attract as many tourists as possible.

It is necessary to eliminate the culture of the tourist tax and improve customer service.

Authorities must better preserve the country's natural heritage to continue attracting tourists year after year.

My Specialty: Waterfall Tourism

Although I am a general tour guide and know Panama very well, I specialize in waterfalls and rivers. I have visited every province in Panama and know the best waterfalls, and I have also seen all kinds of exotic frogs during my journeys.

Sacalagrimas, located in the province of Panamá Oeste two hours from Panama City, offers the chance to see the famous golden frog.

Klosay, located in the province of Bocas del Toro, is probably the most beautiful waterfall in Panama. You can interact with the local flora and fauna.

La Gloria, also located in Panamá Oeste, is the best waterfall in the province.

Las Celestes, found in the province of Veraguas in the La Yeguada forest reserve, features crystal-clear water.

Santa Fé de Veraguas has an endless list of waterfalls, but I especially enjoyed seeing the swifts.

My Passion for Exotic Frogs

Whenever I go hiking, I take the opportunity to photograph as much flora and fauna as possible. Over time, I developed a passion for mushrooms—but mainly for exotic frogs.

Here are the most interesting frogs I have photographed:

  1. Green and Black Poisonous Frog, the most beautiful frog I have seen.
  2. Camouflage Frog, this animal blends in with its surroundings.
  3. Mini Black Frog, so small that it is barely visible.
  4. Hourly Frog, which makes sounds at dawn and dusk like a rooster.

My Best Photos of Exotic Mushrooms

As I mentioned, mushrooms fascinate me almost as much as frogs. The following are mushrooms I have photographed during my travels:

  • White Mushrooms
  • Black Mushroom
  • Brown Mushroom
  • Fuzzy Mushroom
  • Luminous Mushroom
  • Yellow Mushrooms

Conclusion and Final Thoughts

If you are looking for adventure in Panama, you have it.

If you want to experience the beaches and Caribbean warmth in Panama, you have it.

If you’re looking for a cosmopolitan city where there is always something to do, Panama has that too.

In conclusion, Panama has it all.
